Dr David ShephardLubbock Sports Medicine
Dr Shephard is an orthopaedic surgeon committed to the reconstruction of arthritic joints. He is focused on the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and all other forms of joint destruction by means of surgical preservation and replacement of affected joints. In a recent effort to focus on providing the most modern treatment options he has completed a fellowship in adult joint reconstruction at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. During this comprehensive educational period Dr Shephard gained experience in industry-leading minimally invasive joint replacement techniques, partial joint replacement techniques, as well as joint resurfacing procedures. He is particularly excited about direct anterior hip replacement which is a minimally invasive total hip replacement procedure currently new to the Lubbock area.
From Pecos, Texas, Dr Shephard moved to Lubbock where he subsequently attended Texas Tech University earning both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Biology. His Doctorate of Medicine was achieved at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. After returning to Lubbock to complete residency training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center he practiced general orthopaedic surgery for four years at Covenant Medical Center. During this time Dr Shephard not only became a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, but also completed two tours of duty with the United States Army Reserve. He treated wounded soldiers in Mosul, Iraq while part of a combat support hospital and again in 2011 with a forward surgical team in Afghanistan. Dr Shephard rounded out his orthopaedic experience with the recent completion of a comprehensive joint replacement fellowship in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins.
Dr Shephard is excited to be back on the South Plains and is proud to be a part of the group at Lubbock Sports Medicine. He is offering new and comprehensive treatments for all hip, knee and shoulder joint problems and is taking new patient appointments now.

Military Service
